Do you want to know whether you have to type ‘NA’ or anything else for the ‘Citizenship/National Id No.’ field in the Indian visa application form? Here you can know what to type for it. This is part of the series on, ‘Indian Visa Application Form Guide’. So you can also check other articles on the series.
You have seen this question while filling the visa for visiting India.
What does Citizenship/National Id No. mean?
It is a unique identification number for you, provided by your country, recognizing you as the citizen or as a resident of the country.
For visa applicants from the USA
If you are living in the United States of America then you have to provide your ‘Social Security number (SSN)’. Social Security number acts as the de facto national identification number in the U.S.
There are three different types of SSN cards issued in the U.S. With the SSN, the Indian government can understand whether you are a citizen or a temporary resident or a permanent resident of USA. You can also provide ‘U.S. passport card number’.
You have to fill all the necessary details in the application form, which will increase the chance of your visa approval and also makes the approval process faster (see here how long will it take for the approval of the Indian visa).
You can go for other options like ‘NA’ when you don’t have anything to provide. It is perfectly fine to type ‘NA’ if you can’t provide Citizenship or National ID number.
For visa applicants from Australia, UK, and other countries
If your country provides any unique identification number of you like the ‘Social Security number’ then you should type it on the field.
If you don’t have anything then you can simply mention ‘NA’ for the “Citizenship/National Id No.” on the Indian visa application form. The term ‘NA’ stands for ‘Not Applicable’ or ‘Not Available’.
Is it ‘okay’ to type ‘NA’ if I’m not comfortable with disclosing my citizenship/national id number?
