Biography
Sri Devi was born on 13 August 1963 in Meenampatti, a small village in Sivakasi, Madras State (now Tamil Nadu), India. Her birth name was Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan. She changed her name to Sri Devi as a stage name. Her father Ayyapan is a Tamil and her mother Rajeswari is of Telugu origin.
She belongs to the caste Ayyangar (or Iyengar) which is a sub-caste of Tamil Brahmin, Hindu. Sridevi married Mithun Chakraborty in 1985 and the pair later got the divorce in the year 1988.
On on 2 June 1996, Sridevi married Boney Kapoor and they both have 2 daughters named Jahnvi and Khushi.
Career
Sridevi begins her career as a child actor in the movie Kandan Karunai as Lord Murugan in 1967. She again acted as Lord Murga in her second movie Thunaivan in 1969. Her first movie as a leading actress was Moondru Mudichu, a Tamil movie in the year 1976.
Sridevi’s first Bollywood movie was the Solva Sawan in the year 1979. Sridevi’s last movie was English Vinglish in the year 2012.
Death
Sri Devi died on February 24, 2018, in Dubai due to massive cardiac arrest. It was later informed that she died due to accidental drowning when she was bathing in the bathtub. Her age was 54 at the time of death. She was at her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding function in Dubai at the time of her death with her husband and daughter.
